Step Back in Time for a Scoop at America's Nostalgic Ice Cream Parlors

Bassetts Ice Cream (Philadelphia)

Opened in 1861 when the first batches were churned by mule power, Bassetts is America’s oldest ice cream company and a fixture in the Reading Terminal Market since 1892. Stepping inside feels like entering a bygone era, with its original marble counter and tiled floor. Generations of Philadelphians have grown up on Bassetts' famously creamy scoops that use just sugar and cream from Pennsylvania cows but no egg yolks — Philadelphia style. The ice cream is made off-site, but with original family recipes to create its 35 flavors. Still family run after six generations, Bassetts is as much a piece of Philly history as the Liberty Bell.

After exploring a bit, I found the interface to be very well-balanced. It’s not too dense, and at the same time, it provides enough structure to guide the user comfortably.

I took a few minutes to go through the interface, and it’s clear that a lot of thought went into the layout. The structure is neat, and everything is easy to access without unnecessary complexity.

What I liked most after checking it out briefly is how approachable the design feels. It doesn’t overload you with information, and the navigation feels smooth from one section to another.

I checked out the interface for a bit, and it definitely leaves a good impression. The layout feels balanced—not too busy, but still informative. I especially liked how easy it was to switch between sections without getting lost.
